Mangawhero Forest

Mangawhero Forest is located within the rohe (territory) of Ngāti Rangi, the iwi of the Ruapehu. So the area holds great cultural importance for the iwi, with Mt Ruapehu itself being their sacred ancestor. The Mangawhero Stream is another vital cultural landmark, embodying deep spiritual and environmental connections for the iwi. The walk is part of the Tongariro National Park, a Dual World Heritage site recognized for both its natural beauty and its importance to Māori culture.
